The Writers

Lorin Roche, Ph.D. & Camille Maurine

Guy meets girl in a car wash. The guy is 84, a Hungarian-born Jew, and he starts talking story.  The girl, Camille, is a writer and she listens. One thing leads to another ...

Husband-and-wife team Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine are researching and writing Captain Lou Lenart’s story for the "Destiny" book and documentary film. Their company, Noble Heart, is also producing the documentary.

Camille really did meet Lou Lenart at the car wash in Venice, California, in July 2005. Soon afterward she introduced Lou to Lorin, and the three began a lively conversation. As Lou began telling them his story, he realized after several hours they were still listening. They were hearing him deeply, getting the story, and the inner story, the soulfulness and wackiness of it all. Lou decided that they had “the sensitivity, passion, and knowledge” to understand his experiences and his devotion to the cause of Israel. The idea for Camille and Lorin to write the story evolved unexpectedly from their conversations.

"We are not Jewish. This is our first film. We don't have The Solution to World Peace. Yet we are being carried by something mysterious, something of the spirit. We love Lou, are deeply moved by the story, and sense the importance of getting it into the world. People need to know how and why Israel came into being. We want to do this as a call to compassion and understanding. We feel this is a universal story, a human story, a story of the heart."
