Why tell this story now?
First of all, it's an incredible, hair-raising story that
makes grown men cry and inspires young men to be better
people. Women are moved and admire the courage of the women
who guided Israel and fought for her. The survival of
Israel in the first few weeks of its existence was
miraculous. How did a bunch of farmers and concentration
camp survivors fight off five Arab armies?
The destiny of the United States and Israel is intertwined.
The US was the first nation to recognize Israel. President
Truman signed this document just eleven minutes after
hearing -Ben-Gurion's
proclamation.

This was one of Truman's most controversial decisions. The
State Department fought him long and hard, claiming that
recognizing Israel was not in the best interests of the
United States. For Truman, this was a matter of the heart,
a passionate decision. Honor, compassion, and the Bible
called for a homeland for the Jews.
The US has been a fierce ally of Israel for the last 60
years. Even though most people in the United States do not
know what is really going on.
The population of the United States is 301,676,000. Of these, 295,000,000, or 98%, are
not Jewish. Very few of these people know how Israel was
founded. Even many Jews do not know about the supply
missions and combat missions flown in support of Israel
in 1948. Many of these pilots were American veterans of
World War II, and they were joined by British and South
Africans.
Whenever we tell this story, Americans are mesmerized.
Young and old, female and male, Christian and atheist,
native or immigrant, we find that Americans resonate deeply
with this story when they hear it. Books and movies are a
good way to learn history. This story is a real-life
Mission Impossible.
The UN's decision to recognize Israel as a homeland for the
Jewish people was one of the most highly contested actions
it ever took. Amazingly, the right of Israel to exist is
debated to this day.
The Middle East is in the news every day, and Israel is
always involved, somehow.
Let’s hear about how and why Israel came into being.
Why are those people there? How do they survive? This story
is a window into how Israel was founded, as told by an
American Marine who was there to help them.
For 60 years, Israel has been on the front lines of
militant Islam’s war against the West. Israel knows
more about dealing with Islamic fundamentalism and
terrorism than any other country. The United States needs
to learn from Israel’s successes and mistakes.
Time is of the essence. The world needs to come up with
solutions to defuse the tensions in the Middle East, lest
the situation lead to nuclear or biological war.
Israel is a democracy. There is a tradition of democracies
helping each other in times of peril. France assisted the
United States in its war of independence from Britain. The
U.S. assisted Britain in its war with the Nazis.
Israel wins the military wars, but has been losing the
propaganda war.
The story of how Israel was founded, and how individual
acts of courage saved the day, is a key to understanding
how to deal with Arabs and Islam. DESTINY affirms the value
that small groups of individuals can invent ways to head
off disaster.
Americans learn through movies, and love war movies. This
is a great story – a small group of rebel aviators go
over to the Middle East, take on the Arab Empire and win.
The facts of history are similar to the plot of The Seven
Samurai, The Magnificent Seven, and Star Wars.
